- ➤ The city of Surprise will host its Cookies and Crafts event with Santa on Dec. 14 where families and children can enjoy holiday activities and a special visit from Santa. The event offers six time slots between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation Office, 15960 N. Bullard Ave — Surprise residents pay $5 per person while non-residents pay $7; early registration is recommended by calling 6232222249. Surprise Independent
- ➤ The city of Surprise is inviting local businesses, outreach organizations and promotional vendors to join its annual Surprise Party holiday event at the Surprise Recreation Campus, running from 5 to 9 p.m. on December 5 and December 6. Vendors can book a 10x10 booth for promotional purposes only—$750 for businesses and $150 for nonprofits, and must attend both nights of the event. Surprise Independent

- ➤ A Surprise resident in a public letter defended DUSD and other local groups on their decision against BNSF’s rail hub proposal—arguing that officials based their stance on community data and local impacts.
