- ➤ Nearly 30 Dysart Unified School District students enjoyed Surprise Police Department’s Shop with a Cop event on Dec. 6 at Kohl's (14020 W. Bell Road) where they received coffee, breakfast, and a $150 shopping spree as Santa arrived in a military tank to spread holiday cheer. Surprise Independent
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Pope Leo XIV appointed Monsignor Peter Dai Bui as the second auxiliary bishop in the Phoenix diocese to assist Bishop John Dolan and Bishop Eduardo A. Nevares. Bui (who served six years at the Vatican and was named by Pope Francis in 2014) will also continue as Vicar for Clergy. ABC15
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Fifteen Surprise teachers earned mini-grants announced by the Dysart Education Foundation to support STEAM projects at schools including Rancho Gabriela Elementary and Dysart High. The grants, totaling over $22,000, were funded by the Surprise Community Outreach Program + local business donations. Surprise Independent
